DVR Examiner Feature Highlight: Tags

Starting with version 2.1.0, DVR Examiner now includes the ability to add tags to any clip identified by DVR Examiner. You can use this feature to keep track of themes when reviewing video evidence, and later recover a list of clips with a specific "tag" to narrow down the video clips you are working with.

How to add a tag:

  • When selecting a clip, the sidebar will update to the available options for that clip.
  • Under the "Notes" text box, you will see the "Clip Tags" group.
    • Three predefined tags are available in the tags drop down menu: Previewed, Reviewed, and Exported.
    • In addition to the predefined tags, you have the option of creating your own custom tags by typing into the tags auto-complete menu box. If you add a custom tag, that tag is then added to the available tags drop down menu so that it can easily be added to future clips.
  • Tags can also be added through the "Preview" tab, which will automatically sync with the "Clip List" information.

Adding a tag to a clip will automatically add a check mark to the "Has Tags" column in the previewer. You can use this column to filter out all items that either do or do not have tags. The “Has Tags” checkbox in the filter options on the Clip List tab is a tri-state checkbox. When the “Has Tags” checkbox is solid, it will return clips that both do and do not have tags associated with them. If the checkbox is empty it will only return clips that do not have tags and if it is checked it will only return clips that do have tags.

Future updates to tags in DVR Examiner will include the ability to customize the predefined tags for your workstation so the tags you need are automatically in the drop down menu when first scanning a drive, as well as adding the ability to filter by specific tag values.

Have you had a chance to use the tags function within DVR Examiner? Please let us know what you like or dislike about this feature, as well as any suggestions you might have to make tags more useful for you!
